Rachael and Courtney at work

I can't seem to get these 2 off the field. Rachael is in her Wichita Falls Rider High staff shirt with her friend Stacey. Rachael is the Visual Tech for the band and Stacey is the Guard Tech.

Courtney is making sure all the stinky boys have enough water!!

Take a look at this please

I very, very rarely get on any bandwagon as far as big charity, but I really think this is an important one. Please read this article and follow the links in it to get all the background on this project. If my kids were little I certainly would do this and I hope to be able to afford to make a donation soon.

Give one, Get one

Here is the link to the organization site also

One Laptop per Child

I'm always very skeptical of these things, but I've done lots of research on this and I believe that it's a wonderful effort. Rachael and I will be trying to let the schools know about this also. I know nothing about open source, so if any of y'all do, maybe you can explain it to me.

Headstands

For some reason, I told Brian to do a headstand at my birthday dinner. He cheated by using the chair.

I didn't cheat, but I did fall over onto that rocking horse. I've got a great bruise in an interesting place.

Laura didn't want to be left out. Thomas missed all the excitement by napping.

Book Lists

As requested, I found a place where we can keep track of what we read (have read) and share it with each other. I just created my account today and haven't had time to play with it much. Let me know once you are one, and we can be friends so we can share our info.

Readers Unite!

According to the AP, one in four adults in the US didn't read a book last year.

The median number of books read per person was four.

I wish they had called me. I could have helped their numbers out a bit.

Happy Lefthanders' Day!

Since there are a few of us lefties here, I wanted to wish you all a great holiday. For the rest of you, you can celebrate being right-handed the other 364 days a year.

Please note...

Since Comcast has bought out Time Warner, my houston.rr.com email addresses are going away. I couldn't get similar ones (at least not similar enough for my taste) at Comcast, so I've changed everything permanently (I hope) to gmail.

Please change your records to reflect the gmail address, and get rid of the rest of them. The rr.com address is being forwarded for a while, but will be going completely away soon.

new address:

Thanks!

Home--finally!

We finally got back home tonight after leaving on the 4th to "vacation" in Colorado, North Dakota and Illinois.

We built a deck (and baby sat) in Colorado, packed a Budget truck in North Dakota, unloaded it in Illinois on the 20th/21st and spent an extra day making sure the motor would start on the bass boat. Then, we started home, antiquing and taking our time. We spent a few hours in the Murrell Motel and had dinner and conversation with Max before we all hit the sack.

We drove a total of 5,122 miles--we won't be doing that again! Flying is quicker, easier on the old bod and cheaper!!!

Happy birthday, Dad!

Happy birthday, Dad! I hope you had a good evening (I thought we had fun). Too bad everyone reading this couldn't be there to share in the festivities, and the strawberries and steak!

Here's to many more good birthday dinners for you.

We love you!!!

Let Them Eat Cake

Laura, Courtney and I made this cake for dinner.

You might be asking if you really can eat cake for dinner.

You can if it's Meat Cake!

The cake is made of meatloaf frosted with mashed potatoes.

Brian was both confused and impressed.

Much fun was had by all.

Cousins having fun

Kailey and Megan had lunch at McDonald's (with their Grammas) and played in the area there and then come to our house to play some more. they had a good time and before Kailey left they wanted to make the funny face picture. I'm sure they will hate it when they are about 15 or 16.

Celebrate!!!

Hope everyone has a good, SAFE 4th. We'll be on the road--we're leaving very early and spending the night in Raton.

Love you all.

Sunday, July 01, 2007

We're taking a vacation???

We are leaving on the 4th, heading for Ellen's house. We'll spend a little more than a week there, building a deck and spoiling the girls, and then head to Ginny's. We'll be helping them move to Kankakee, IL, spending the night on the road in the Twin Cities with Harv's sister-in-law.

Some time after the truck is unloaded, we'll probably going up to Chicago to join Harv's sister and family to celebrate a 4th birthday at the Shedd Aquarium. After that, we plan to head to Bloomington, IN, to visit friends and maybe we'll be able to arrange to see some AL friends.

We probably will be going through OKC on the way home and can see Julie, etc., Max and Jim. I'm pretty sure F, M, D, and T will still be in Nashville at the Bridge thing-y.

Eventually, we'll be heading back to AZ but who knows when? I figure we'll be exhausted from the building, moving, traveling, etc., so we'll have to come home to rest up.

We won't be gone long enough for it to have cooled down, though. With luck monsoon will have arrived by the time we get back, though. We could use a little of that TX/OK/KS rain!

HI

Hi !!!
My sister (she said she's my favorite!!!) got me here (she says "via Jason".). I never could do it before.
Aren't you impressed???
Now what.
Those were some pretty flowers, but why the weeds??? I can do that.
The kid needed his face washed, but I guess it was cute.
The old man with the toy-----what can I say????? ?????
The old lady says there were comments on my birthday, so now I can go back and read them.
Not much going on these days.

Dream come true

This is Max's long wished for dream car. A long time ago I got hime a toy one cause I never expected to see one sitting on our driveway. After much planning and lots of decisions, he contacted a fellow in the KC, MO area to build this car for him. It arrived here on the 30th. Haven't had a lot of opportunity to drive it yet due to rain. But he's really tickled to have it.

Happy Birthday, Aunt Betty!

I would be discrete and not post your age, but Mom told me to let everyone know that you are turning 60 today.

Hope it's a good one!

Wildflowers

Last weekend, Jim and I went to visit a friend in Smithville, and I not only actually remembered to take the camera, but to use it as well. Pretty amazing, let me tell you!

The yellows were out in force. With all the rain and the relatively cool weather we have been having, there are myriad varieties of yellow blooming out there. I was very glad I had taken my Claritin, because the yellow ones seem to make me much sicker than any other type of wildflower.

So I took some pictures. Black-eyed Susan, phlox, and some things I don't know the names of.

Oh, and why aren't you guys playing Trivia with us? Forgot the link? Here is it...Trivia here!

Now, on to the pictures. I don't know the name of the flowers in the bottom two pictures - they *are* flowers, even though they are not brightly colored...but I have never seen anything like them before. If any of you know what they are, speak up, please! I think they would dry nicely, but I don't know. I just thought they were pretty. I didn't get any good pictures of the incredible crop of bluebonnets we had this year, because Easter weekend, when we were also in Smithville visiting friends, it was, well, sleeting, and the pictures just didn't come out well. Unfortunate, too, because I have never seen so many gorgeous flowers as were out in central Texas in early April. The next time we were there, they were almost all gone. Oh well, there's always next year!

Sad news

We have some sad news. Our grandmother passed away on the 29th, She was 96 years young. Although not unexpected we will all miss her very much, especially the way she would light up around Megan and Grant

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DOTTY!!

Since I couldn't get far from home this past week, I didn't get a birthday card mailed so this will have to be it. We're wishing you a Happy, Happy Birthday and hope Mother's Day is good, too. Our Mother's Day wishes to Barb, Vicki, Susan and Bobby! And Janice and Charlotte if they're around!

I'm planning to spend the day reading and doing little or nothing. Harv is going to grill steaks for supper. Donna and Bud will come for supper, too. I spent much of today getting the rest of the meal as ready as I could!

Have a good day--love to all!

Spring Break with Salsa

Well, we survived Spring Break in San Antonio with many, many (to the nth degree) other revelers. Even though the weather was crappy most of the time, we managed to do most of the tourista things, as you will see from the pics. One thing never changes about SA... we are always lost there. The girls loved the wax musuem ;)

I like the new colors...

but I liked the blue/green scheme better. I'm guessing there isn't a way to keep the nice blue/green and use the light background?

It's fun to play with layouts, though, isn't it? Thanks for taking the time to do that, Barb.

New Look

Since I seem to have the most time to spend online, Kim gave me access to change stuff on here. I'm still tweaking it, but let me know what you think of the new look and if you would like stuff added.

Color requests for maroon, crimson or orange will be denied. :)

Happy Valentine's Day

Consider this a Valentine greeting to all of you. I managed to get little "somethings" mailed to the girls--Amanda, Lizzie and the "other" Rachael. Amanda and Lizzie loved their little Barbie purses (full of candy) that twinkle when you press the butterfly. Rachael threw her little stuffed beagle across the room and screamed. She was not happy. Do you think maybe she has a temper?

We (mostly Harv) have spent the past seven weeks remodeling the kitchen--basically gutting it. Right now he's getting ready to grout the backsplash tile. Then, finally, I shall be able to clean the floor and, hopefully, have it stay clean for more than 10 minutes. He still has some basic trim pieces to put on the new cabinets but then he'll be finished for a bit. We plan to put a small electric oven in the island but he figures he'll just build it around the oven. And the floor remains to be redone. I haven't a clue when those'll happen, though, since we have company pretty solid for the next few weeks. He's still working full time but ocassionally works from home. That helps.

WI friends are coming next week (why the floor MUST be cleaned this weekend!), then some of Harv's cousins from WA are going to be around (baseball spring training games start fairly soon). After that we'll have his FL sister coming for 10 days during which visit we'll go to Vegas for a nephew's wedding (in an Elvis Chapel by an Elvis impersonator). Then, the visit we're really looking forward to--Ellen Bob and the girls. Should be interesting! They'll be here for about 10 days, too, the end of March.

We're open after that--except I'm going to be in Keller for a week in April when Harv is junketing in San Francisco. Soooo--anyone willing to come to Keller? Unfortunately, I'm going to be doing Saturday to Saturday--14-21--so the timing isn't great.

Or, you can come out here! Late April and early May are nice.

Everyone safe and warm?

This cold front is yukky! I hope everyone is safe, warm, and dry.
Here, in beautiful NW Houston, it is 31 degrees, wind gusts about 27 mph, with the occasional flurry of sleet.

If it gets very wet tonight, all of my access to work will be covered in ice. We are under orders to only drive it is absolutely safe, and we know we can get home okay, since it is supposed to get worse tomorrow during the day.

Whatever you are doing, I hope you are safe!

Amazing!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWjQCsI2BCE&eurl=

This is a friend of Jim's, from the SCA. He does amazing work, obviously - I cannot imagine doing this, from raising the silkworms to dyeing the thread to weaving...he is truly talented, and obviously dedicated! Apparently someone thought him good enough to put it on television. He won some awards at the State Fair this year as well, I think.

Anyway, enjoy.

Well, poo!

The trivia page is down.

Oh, and I upgraded to the new version of Blogger - it looks cool, but until the owner of this blog (not mentioning any names, Kim...) upgrades as well, we won't get to see the coolness that is the new version!

Poo. It's still down. :(
